Remember The Zoo – back in the 80s BB Message boards were full of this faux lp,rumours began that BW had made an lp to ease the world into PET SOUNDS, he never did, but, could have, the original boots were bizarre in the extreme, often including released songs like in the back of my mind and summer means new love alongside various rumoured titles inc songs recorded a good while after 66,it was a good ruse but as can be heard there could have been a great lp as an interim…would BW have re visted GOOD VIBRATIONS to create his masterpiece and release the new version on a later album ?? he did the very same thing with HELP ME RHONDA jjers..

AN ALTERNATE REVOLVER

Seconds (1966)
Seconds (Unofficial, w/Dialog) (1966)

SECONDS is legendary in pop circles as the moment Brian Wilson's eccentric behavior descended into paranoia, He believed the film was made by Phil Spector's "mind gangsters",claiming that both Frankenheimer and Spector were jews ergo they would side together…..As insane as it sounds the film does indeed tell Brian's life, success in the sun ,A falling out with his family in favour of new friends then a rapid and irretrievable decline and, yup, a Mr Wilson is indeed there, proud and loud… Wilson aside this is one of Jerry Goldsmith’s finest hours. A deeply sensitive and compelling soundtrack score that successfully encapsulates John Frankenheimer’s tale of isolation, fear and self. “Quiet Isolation” echoes throughout many of the film’s more introspective scenes. It’s a delicate, melancholy, music box melody that expertly captures the characters’ lingering sadness. The soundtrack’s gothic organ interludes add that same sinister charm that cheap 70s horror movies would later be known for. The lp only 23 minutes (more with a few added bonuses), but there are many ideas and moods packed into this dreamlike musical narrative. Let this music get under your skin (with a few film viewings) and the somber, lifeless, distance will haunt you. The largely string-driven sorrow sometimes reminds me of the longing, haunting music Stanley Kubrick used for his isolated astronauts in 2001.

The unofficial soundtrack, culled from the film itself, includes dialog and screen effects. But, for long-time fans of the movie, it’s just as entertaining. Since the film doesn’t get bogged down in a lot of talk, the disembodied passages enhance the spooky musical surrounds, evocatively telling the movie’s story through speech and sound. Whichever version, this is top-notch film score that still stands up today.
